FREE 8-week class series
Meets on Thursdays, April 24 - June 12
4:30-5:45pm | Smiley Building, Durango
Recovery yoga classes provide a safe and supportive environment for those in recovery from addiction to enhance their overall well-being and quality of life. Research shows that yogic practices promote recovery from addiction, reduce stress, anxiety, depression and chronic pain and improve sleep patterns.
During this 8-week series you will be offered:
· Compassionate discussion on the deeper causes of addiction
· Breath, gentle body-centered movement and meditation practices
· Tools to be used in everyday life that will empower you on your recovery journey
This series is open to anyone seeking to address their addictive habits whether you are relatively new to the paths of yoga and recovery or have experience in both.
These classes are for those in active recovery, they are not front-line treatment for addiction.
Classes are free to participants based on a grant from the Southwest Opioid Response District. Registration is required, see below. Space is limited (8 students max).
Elyse Perry
Movement has been medicine for Elyse since she was a young girl growing up and playing in the woods of the Hudson Valley of New York. At a very young age she began taking ballet and tap classes and devoted much of her early life to dance. She discovered yoga her senior year of college and after moving from New York to San Francisco quickly fell in love with the flowing movements of a vinyasa practice. She has been a student of yoga for 25 years learning from many teachers, including Seane Corne, Hala Khouri and Hannah Muse. Yoga was instrumental in her getting sober and is one of the pillars of her 2+ years in recovery. She believes through the practice of yoga we remember our true nature and can find our way home to ourselves. She is passionate about sharing the practice of yoga with others on their paths of recovery. She completed her RYT-200 with Samdhana Yoga and Alicia Cheung in Bali and has been teaching since 2023. She is currently a yoga therapist in training with Inner Peace Yoga Therapy.
